At YPHS, our mission is to service children with language based learning disabilities and ADHD. There are a number of critical elements to fully and successfully serving this community of learning. We create an exceptionally warm, caring and supportive learning environment where every child is known and feels welcome.

We know that children thrive not only by supporting their challenges, but importantly, by helping them find their strengths. We help them discover areas of interest, understand themselves better, and find ways to feel successful both inside and outside their academic work.

Application process.

We engage in a thorough application process to ensure that we can support your child at Yeshivah Prep, and that this is the right learning environment for them.

Initial Contact: A parent or guardian calls the school to set up a conversation with a member of the leadership team, as the initial point of contact. It is important for us to spend the time to share what a school for language based learning disabilities is, as well as how to address a transition from elementary school. This is true whether your child is coming from a mainstream or special education school. We take the time to delve deep so you can understand the academic supports and rigor awaiting your child’s growth.

Walkthrough/Application Request: An administrator will the parents to sets up a walk-through at YPHS. If the parent is interested and feels that YPHS is appropriate for their child, they can then fill out an application form online. This will include a list of documents that will be listed in the application, and a nominal application fee.

Application Submission: If the parent wants to pursue the process of applying to YPHS, they fill out an application and is reviewed by the team before we contact their current school.

Application Review: If the above documents appear to meet YPHS’ student profile, and conversations with staff and teachers of that student seem to meet the academic, social and emotional categories of acceptability, YPHS sets up a school visit with the candidate’s current school to observe the student and speak with school staff.

School Observation: The school observation allows for a more accurate snapshot beyond the paperwork to see the child in an academic setting and school environment.

Interview: There are two parts to the interview. One includes a tour, and the opportunity to see the school in action and ask questions. The second includes an academic and social-emotional evaluation and a discussion with the parent(s) about their child.

Decision: After a full team review, we do our best to let parents know as soon as possible if their child is accepted YPHS.

The Application Form and required documentation should be emailed to hs@yeshivahprep.org or returned to the school mailing address to the attention of Rabbi Sion Setton, School Principal.

Funding assistance.

Is funding available from the NYC public schools?

Given that every child is entitled to a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) per the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), a family may be eligible to receive financial assistance in the form of Carter or Connors funding from the NYC Public Schools. Parents need to contact an educational attorney for a more detailed explanation of tuition reimbursement. Yeshiva Prep can also help facilitate this relationship.

What is Connors Funding?

Connors funding is structured to enable families who cannot pay tuition upfront, and wait for reimbursement, to enroll at a specialized non-public school while simultaneously seeking a determination that the NYC Public Schools will pay the tuition through due process proceedings. The parent must file a complaint to seek Connors funding, and a hearing may be held to determine eligibility.

What is Carter funding?

If a family places a child in a specialized non-public school in NYC, they can pay the tuition for the school up front and may be able to seek reimbursement for that tuition from the NYC Public Schools. This reimbursement is known as Carter funding. The parent must file a complaint to seek Carter funding and a hearing may be held. Please contact an educational attorney for a more detailed explanation of Carter funding.

What if I can’t afford the whole tuition upfront?
